A
tour of Airliewood is an enchanting step back into time when
the pioneers of this new frontier were already accustomed to the finer things
that fortunes from their cotton plantations could provide.
Airliewood, or the Coxe mansion when it was built, was different from the
Greek Revival mansions going up along Salem Avenue. It is a Gothic villa,
a design patterned after drawings of fashionable Philadelphia architect
Samuel Sloan, who also was the designer of Longwood (Nutt's Folly) in Natchez.
In the restoration of Airliewood, the owners have done extensive research
and scientific investigation to bring this historic mansion back to its
original state.
Come see a Mississippi treasure that has been saved for future generations
and hear the stories that have made Airliewood an important historical
landmark.
