12.  Sam Kaye to HHM, 27 Sept, 2003, and 27 Mar. 2004.  Pat Edwards,  "Rosedale and Samuel Sloan,"  thesis, Mississippi University for Women, 1974. When Mills Lane was working on his books on ante-bellum southern architecture, I suggested that he investigate Thomas K. Wharton of New Orleans, who had lived in Holly Springs in the mid-1840s, as the possible architect of  Airliewood.   Rather than investigating, Lane instead made the statement in print that Wharton might have been the architect.  Later, I read Wharton's diary for the 1850s in the New York Public Library.  There is no mention of the Coxes or of Holly Springs.  Wharton clearly had no hand in the Coxe mansion.
