Coxe cemetery plot
Located along the first entrance on South Center
Street to Hillcrest Cemetery, the Coxe family plot bears impressive
monuments to four of the Coxe brothers and Will Henry's wife Amelia.
The tall spire on the left is the marker for William Henry which also
contains an inscription for the last surviving brother, Matthew James.
The next is a beautiful monument for his wife Amelia, who died before
the Coxe mansion was built. The next two are for brothers Bartley and
Robert Edward. The inscription on William Henry's monument reads:
"Generous and confiding in his disposition; sincere and ardent in his
feelings; he was a devoted husband, father and brother; an unfaltering
friend; a kind and indulgent master; loved most by those who knew him
best. He lived without an enemy, and his untimely grave was moistened
by many a tear."
